Monastery is located in Detroit, Michigan, near the intersection of I-96 and
Telegraph Road.

3. The foundation of the Monastery.
The Ascension
of the Lord Orthodox Monastery was established by His Eminence, Archbishop
NATHANIEL, upon the arrival of eight monks from the “Brancoveanu” Monastery at
Sambata de Sus, Romania. Having received the blessing of their hierarch, His
Eminence ANTONIE, Metropolitan of Transylvania, these monks traveled to the
United States and settled the first Romanian Orthodox Monastery for monks in
North America.

4. The history of the building.
Before being
purchased for the Orthodox community of Metropolitan Detroit, the building was
built and used as a monastery and retreat center by the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese of Detroit, the monks belonging to the Order of Saint Paul of the
Cross.
